Rest Safe

Fairmont Royal York has partnered with the University Health Network Foundation to offer the Rest Safe program for its network of frontline health care professionals. As the city remains vigilant, hospital staff are called to work extended shifts, resulting in significant levels of mental, emotional and physical fatigue. To support these incredible efforts, the Rest Safe program establishes the Fairmont Royal York as a comfortable resting place for UHN's network to take personal time to pause, relax and benefit from a good night's sleep.

Over the course of the pandemic, the hotel's team has acted with tremendous care to adhere to government health and safety regulations, in addition to internal safety audits and enhanced cleaning protocols in Accor’s ALLSafe cleanliness label developed with the support of Bureau Veritas, a recognized world leader in testing, inspections and certification services. At each touchpoint along the guest journey, extensive measures are implemented to protect guests and colleagues to aid in preventing the spread of COVID-19.

"The health and safety of both our guests and colleagues will always remain paramount. We are proud to partner with and support the University Health Network Foundation through the Rest Safe program to give back to health care professionals. This is a pivotal moment in our city’s history, and our team aims to do everything we can to contribute to our community’s recovery," said Edwin Frizzell, Regional Vice President, Accor Central Canada and General Manager of Fairmont Royal York.

A leader in major research and complex case management, the University Health Network was in fact the first to administer the COVID-19 vaccine in Ontario. With such successful progress, clinicians are experiencing some of the highest levels of distress and burnout in maintaining the pace required in caring for Toronto’s population.

“We are very grateful for the support of the UHN Foundation and the Fairmont Royal York for making the Rest Safe program available to our employees,” said Dr. Kevin Smith, President and CEO of University Health Network. “Providing care for the very sickest patients during this pandemic has been exhausting and emotionally draining for our teams, and this offers them respite in an environment where they can relax and rest safely. I know I speak for everyone who has taken advantage of the Rest Safe program to say that we are very grateful for the recognition of the work being done at UHN. Team UHN is grateful to have experienced Fairmont’s unforgettable hospitality when we needed it most.”

The hotel’s ownership group, KingSett Capital, has proved to be a pivotal player in helping to orchestrate such initiatives that give back to the community. "Fairmont Royal York represents the history and soul of our great city, with a long-standing tradition of serving the local community. We feel fortunate to play our part in supporting all those who dedicate much of their time and resources in caring for the very foundation of Toronto – its people," said Paul Campbell, Royal York Project Lead at KingSett Capital. For over 91 years, the Grand Dame of Front Street has stood as a safe harbor in the heart of Toronto in times of need, and will continue to serve the local community for centuries to come.
