Meet Kate

My next step might be leading an opening team for one of the many new hotels in Accor's global portfolio.

- Kate St. John, Director of Banquets

I started my career with Fairmont Hotels & Resorts in 2007 as a host at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler. After an exciting winter season, I decided to extend my stay and became a server. In 2011, I was promoted to an Outlet Manager position at the Chateau Whistler Golf Course and Chalet. In 2013, I decided to round out my food and beverage experience by taking on the role of banquet manager. After nine years of living in the mountain region, I returned home to Australia, then ventured to Canada in 2017 to join Fairmont Royal York as a Banquet Manager.

My last five years at the Fairmont Royal York have been an amazing experience. As well as getting to work at a beautiful historical property that has hosted many great events in Canadian history, it is also a place that feels like home. The colleagues that work here genuinely love what they do and take such great pride in welcoming our guests. Most recently, I was promoted to take on the role of Director of Banquets, and I’m thrilled for the opportunity to lead our team in creating grand experiences for our guests.

In my experience, a great team environment starts with building relationships with your direct team and fellow colleagues. Once there’s a level of trust established and people feel that you see them as an individual, it’s much easier to work towards a common goal. In the coming years, I would love to broaden my hotel experience internationally either in the US or Europe, and work on opening teams for new hotels within the Fairmont Hotels & Resorts and Accor brand portfolio.

International Women's Day is a great opportunity to recognize the achievements of the women around us, to reflect on the positive advancements for equality, and to champion it for future generations.
